Le Masterklass offers individualised and personalised support during one year to help participants develop a sensitive and meaningful photography under the guidance of Klavdij Sluban, renowned and appreciated for his uncompromising expression and his work with teenagers in prison.
Dates: December 2025 – November 2026.
With one meeting per month, three in group and nine individual, the in-person encounters take place in a spacious loft in the heart of Paris.
Guided throughout by Klavdij’s experience and generosity, each participant completes a project according to an individual program adapted to one’s own progression. Writing texts will be part of the project development. Editing, the cornerstone of Le Masterklass, allows for a better understanding of one’s work and, therefore, the direction to take in order to create a coherent portfolio, exhibition or book publication.

Un workshop unique en Slovénie avec Klavdij Sluban, photographe français d’origine slovène. Il expose et anime des workshops en France et dans le monde entier depuis 30 ans. Sa réputation a incité des festivals photographiques de renommée mondiale comme Les Rencontres d’Arles à l’inviter chaque année depuis vingt ans à enseigner dans le cadre de ses célèbres ateliers internationaux de photographie.
Partageant son expérience et ses connaissances sur l’art contemporain et la photographie d’auteur, Klavdij a donné des workshops à l’université de Harvard, Kyotography à Kyoto, Circulo de Bellas Artes à Madrid, Guandong Art Museum, National Gallery à Jakarta…
East To East Photography
Tereza Kozinc et Klavdij Sluban ont fondé « East To East Photography » pour diffuser la photographie en tant que langage visuel. Des ateliers sont organisés dans les pays d’Europe centrale et orientale. En utilisant l’intuition et les sentiments intérieurs, l’auteur développe la photographie comme une écriture contemporaine. Chaque participant-e exprime sa manière personnelle de photographier en s’inspirant de l’atmosphère spécifique de cette partie de l’Europe.
Spécificité du workshop
Cet workshop consiste à développer son écriture photographique personnelle à travers une exploration unique de la Slovénie. La capacité de partage et de transmission de la photographie de Klavdij Sluban aide chaque participant-e à trouver ses compétences d’auteur.
La connaissance de la Slovénie de Klavdij Sluban, né à Paris, il a passé son enfance à Livold, un village de Basse Carniole, donne à ce workshop une façon unique de découvrir ou de mieux connaître le pays de ses origines. Parlant la langue, il est pleinement engagé dans la scène artistique du pays.
En 2025, le musée Galerija Jakopic lui a consacré une exposition rétrospective: “Somewhere Else, Here”.
Des rencontres avec des photographes et des directeurs de grandes institutions seront organisées.
La Slovénie, située dans le sud de l’Europe centrale, est un mélange de culture traditionnelle et de mode de vie moderne. Dans le même temps, la nature est un atout majeur : en 2016, la Slovénie a été déclarée premier pays vert au monde par la Commission européenne « Green Destinations ».
La diversité inattendue de la Slovénie offre la possibilité de photographier des lieux hors des sentiers battus. La capitale est un point de départ idéal pour explorer et visiter le reste du pays à moins d’une heure de route. Ljubljana est surtout appréciée pour la facilité avec laquelle on peut s’y promener, permettant ainsi de photographier en toute liberté. L’hospitalité et la gentillesse de ses habitants rendent les rencontres d’autant plus agréables. Architecture baroque (autrichienne) et romaine (italienne), le marché ouvert du matin, les les rues pavées, les restaurants en plein air et les bars de musique live en font une ville aussi charmante que pittoresque. Outre les sites principaux comme le Triple Pont, le château qui domine la ville ou des lieux comme Metelkova, un camp militaire de l’ancienne armée yougoslave, qui s’est transformé en un quartier underground et artistique vivant qui s’anime la nuit.
Tous ces contrastes et ces différentes atmosphères conduiront à une interprétation photographique personnelle inspirée par la diversité des situations.
Un voyage en train au départ de la gare de Ljubljana, située dans un magnifique bâtiment du XIXe siècle, toujours animée et pleine de saveurs de toute l’Europe puisqu’il y a des liaisons directes avec Trieste, Venise, Munich, Vienne, Budapest, Zagreb, Belgrade, montrera une Slovénie cachée et les effets de la post-industrialisation. Le lac Bohinj et ses environs sauvages seront explorés. Une halte sera faite au lac de Bled, une merveille naturelle. La Slovénie et les effets de la post-industrialisation. Programme et objectifs principaux
Le dimanche, un dîner est organisé dans la vieille ville. Cette première rencontre est une manière agréable de faire connaissance et de voir les détails de la semaine. La semaine sera composée à la fois de séances photographiques quotidiennes dans divers endroits à Ljubljana ou bien en dehors de la ville ainsi que de séances d’editing.
Les sorties sur le terrain quotidiennes auront lieu le matin. L’editing des photos de la veille se fera l’après-midi.

L’editing est axé sur une critique constructive, des conseils sont donnés sur la manière de construire une série photographique à la première personne du singulier.
La variété des lieux et des situations permettra à chaque participant-e de trouver son propre langage photographique en retranscrivant la réalité selon sa sensibilité.
Qui peut participer à cet atelier
Toute personne passionnée par l’image fixe : photographes professionnels, artistes, étudiants en photographie et en art, amateurs de photographie et d’art, etc…
Chaque individu a la capacité de construire son propre langage visuel lorsque la passion pour l’image et les bons conseils coexistent.
Les réponses aux courriels seront données dans la même langue que celle utilisée pour les questions.

Ce qu’il faut apporter
– Entre 15 et 20 PHOTOS ORNEMENTALES de petite taille (jusqu’au format A4). Chaque participant montrera ces photos lors de notre première rencontre, le lundi matin. Elles seront analysées, discutées et seront un point de départ pour orienter au plus juste.
-Votre appareil photo numérique, un seul objectif et ses accessoires (batteries supplémentaires, cartes mémoire, câble de transfert d’images vers un ordinateur, clé USB, disque dur externe, etc…).
– Un carnet de notes ou un enregistreur pour faciliter la prise de notes pendant l’atelier car de nombreuses références sur les photographes, les livres, les principales expositions, les lieux… seront données à tout moment.
– Très apprécié : votre ordinateur personnel pour un travail plus efficace.
Klavdij Sluban est un photographe français d’origine slovène, né à Paris en 1963. « Artiste de l’année en Corée du Sud en 2017, lauréat du European Publishers Award for Photography 2009, du Leica Award (2004) et du prix Niépce (2000) (principal prix français de photographie). Il expose et anime des ateliers de photographie en France et dans le monde entier depuis 20 ans. Sluban a développé une œuvre rigoureuse et cohérente, nourrie de littérature, jamais inspirée par l’actualité immédiate et sensationnelle, qui fait de lui l’un des photographes les plus intéressants de sa génération. Les Balkans, la mer Noire, la mer Baltique, les Caraïbes, l’Amérique centrale, la Russie, la Chine et l’Antarctique (première mission artistique aux îles Kerguelen) peuvent être lus comme autant d’étapes successives d’une étude approfondie d’une patiente proximité avec le réel rencontré.
Ses images ont été exposées dans des institutions de premier plan telles que le Metropolitan Museum of Photography de Tokyo, la Maison européenne de la photographie à Paris, les Rencontres d’Arles, le Musée de la photographie d’Helsinki, le Musée des beaux-arts de Canton, le Musée Beaubourg, le Museum of Texas Tech University, le Museum of Photography de Corée du Sud, entre autres. En 2013, le musée Niépce a présenté une rétrospective de l’œuvre de Klavdij Sluban, After Darkness, 1995-2012.
Parmi ses nombreux ouvrages, citons East to East (publié simultanément par Actes Sud, Dewi Lewis, Petliti, Braus, Apeiron & Lunwerg avec un texte d’Erri de Luca), Entre Parenthèses, (Photo Poche, Actes Sud), Transverses, (Maison Européenne de la Photographie) et Balkans-Transit, avec un texte de François Maspero (Seuil).
Depuis 1995, Sluban photographie des adolescents en prison et organise des ateliers. D’abord initié en France, à la prison de Fleury-Mérogis avec le soutien d’Henri Cartier-Bresson, Marc Riboud et William Klein, cet engagement s’est poursuivi dans les camps disciplinaires d’Europe de l’Est -Serbie, Slovénie, Ukraine, Géorgie, Moldavie, Lettonie- et dans les centres disciplinaires de Moscou et de Saint-Pétersbourg, ainsi qu’en Irlande. Depuis 2007, Sluban travaille en Amérique centrale avec des jeunes emprisonnés appartenant à des maras (gangs) au Guatemala et au Salvador, ainsi qu’à Sao Paulo, au Brésil.

Un workshop exceptionnel en Slovénie avec Klavdij Sluban, photographe français d’origine slovène, reconnu internationalement, pour explorer un pays captivant et extrêmement varié.
La diversité inattendue qu’offre la Slovénie permet de photographier hors les sentiers battus. Les Slovènes sont accueillants et décontractés. Lier connaissance et photographier la vie au quotidien est aussi stimulant qu’agréable. Ljubljana, la capitale « verte », est appréciée pour être visitable à pied.
La connaissance particulière qu’a Klavdij Sluban de la Slovénie est un atout majeur de ce workshop. Il y a passé son enfance. Il est pleinement investi dans la scène artistique actuelle.
Le mélange de culture traditionnelle et de style de vie moderne sera propice à développer les genres majeurs de la photographie contemporaine. Des splendeurs naturelles des lacs Bled et Bohinj aux gigantesques usines, une Slovénie toute en contrastes sera découverte. Un voyage en train dévoilera les effets de la post- industrialisation le long de la rivière Save. Un monde insoupçonné se révélera dans les squats de Ljubljana qui regorgent d’une vie underground foisonnante et de quartiers qui s’animent à la nuit tombée.
L’expérience et la capacité de Klavdij Sluban conduiront chaque participant à puiser en soi afin de développer une écriture photographique personnelle. Le point d’équilibre se fera entre la diversité des situations et la perception intérieure.
La spécificité du workshop est la prise en charge complète de chaque participant durant toute la durée du workshop : hébergement (centre ville, agréable, cozy) , repas (local, traditionnel, moderne), visites et transports à l’intérieur du pays (train, voiture, bus, bateau), impression des photos.

An exceptional workshop in Slovenia with Klavdij Sluban, a renowned French photographer of Slovenian origin, to explore photographically a country that gets to be known. The unexpected diversity of Slovenia affords the possibility to photograph places off the beaten tracks.
Ljubljana, the “green” capital, is best beloved for being walkable all around. Slovenians’ hospitality and kindness makes photographing as challenging as pleasant.
Klavdij Sluban’s knowledge of Slovenia gives this workshop a unique way to discover the country where he spent his childhood. He is fully committed in the country’s art scene.
Main genres in contemporary photography will be developed thanks to the mix of traditional culture and modern way of life. From natural wonders such as lakes Bled and Bohinj, a hidden Slovenia will be discovered with gigantic factories. A train trip will show the effects of post industrialization along the river Sava. An unexpected world unveals in the squatted areas in Ljubljana which have developed into vivid underground and art districts that come to life at night.
One’s personal photographic writing will be developed thanks to K. Sluban’s capacity of sharing and transmitting photography. He helps each participant to find their skills as an author. Photographing outdoors will be followed by everyday sessions of editing, main pillar to build a coherent and meaningful series.
The specificity of the workshop consists of fully taking care of the participants during the whole time of their staying, including accomodation (central, cozy, pleasant), meals (local traditional, modern) transport (car, train, bus, boat) and printing of the photos.
